Word Origins is an evidence-informed program designed to provide the next step in spelling, reading and vocabulary instruction for students in middle to upper primary school and beyond. Designed to follow any high-quality structured phonics program, Word Origins targets student knowledge of the morphological regularities of English, and the etymology, or language of origin, of our vocabulary, and the impact these elements have on spelling, reading, and word knowledge.
Suitable for use in both whole-class and intervention settings, Word Origins includes complete lesson plans, resources, and assessment materials. Each level of the Word Origins program offers a full year of detailed lesson plans including:
Daily reviews
Morphology knowledge
Spelling activities
Word building
Vocabulary
Word Origins Level 1 covers more than 140 Latin, Greek and Anglo-Saxon morphemes with associated reading passages, dictation sentences and more.
Because Word Origins is a structured and cumulative program, Level 1 must be completed before Level 2 instruction is commenced - regardless of the age or grade level being taught.
